Neil – Bassist/Discovery Music Owner

Neil began his career as a bassist in the thriving Calgary Jazz and Pop music scene of the early ’70s. He developed his love of country music playing with Debi Lori Kay of the Tommy Hunter Show and Kenny Rogers & The First Edition TV shows. Neil was also a founding member of the critically acclaimed Great Western Orchestra and became an in-demand studio musician. He toured and recorded with Jann Arden, Johnny Gimbal of Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys, and then Ian Tyson during his successful Cowboyography period, in what Ian described in his book as a serendipitous combination of notable musicians. From there it was on to George Fox with many TV and radio performances.

Neil enjoyed a long and accomplished career recording, performing and in musical theatre and eventually settled in Calgary with his wife Darcie. The Bentleys opened Discovery Music over 15 years ago and Neil continues to play bass professionally when the demands of running a busy music store permit.
